Queen’s Commerce is home to the fantastic organization, Queen’s Commerce Society, also known as ComSoc. Here at Youthfully, we’d argue that this is the largest and most successful business student government in all of Canada.
ComSoc is entirely student-run and governs over 18 conferences and 33 clubs and committees. It is made up of over 1,300 student positions.
Queen’s Commerce Conferences
Each year, ComSoc arranges stellar conferences like the Commerce & Engineering Environmental Conference, the Queen’s Women in Leadership Conference, and the Queen’s Commerce Leadership Summit (QCLS).
Through workshops and educational initiatives, these conferences offer invaluable experiences to students to develop new skills in terms of leadership, networking, and collaboration. For instance, in the past, the QCLS has worked with companies like Eagles Flight and Chubb Insurance to create activities that assist student delegates hone their understanding of leadership.
Other notable ComSoc conferences include the Queen’s Finance Association Conference, which is Canada’s longest-running undergraduate finance conference. During a span of four days, participants learn about the finance industry by attending interactive workshops, keynote addresses, case simulations, and networking events.
As you can see, the conferences are certainly world-class. Also, ComSoc’s clubs are exceptionally run and have focused objectives. Regardless of a student’s interests, they should be able to find a club that suits their business interests.
Advantages of Queen’s Commerce Society
ComSoc achieves many of the goals as a traditional co-op program. Although Queen’s Commerce doesn’t offer co-op, students can learn many of the same essential skills that co-op offers through participating in the ComSoc conferences and committees.
For example, the Queen’s Accounting Association excellently prepares students for careers in accounting by offering educational and networking events on topics like potential career options and the importance of the CPA designation.
ComSoc offers additional leadership opportunities through the general assembly. Made of over 50 positions, the general assembly helps to develop and maintain student life and ComSoc’s committees and conferences.
